A Jain-Taylor family Christmas tradition combining delicate crepes with both savory and sweet components. This recipe serves 2 people with a choice of two flavor profiles: savory with glazed tofu and Velveeta sauce, or sweet with berry compote, Nutella, and whipped cream.

Components

Prep Order

For efficiency, prepare components in this order:

  1. Brown Sugar & Mustard Glazed Tofu — Requires pressing and marinating, which takes ~2 hours total
  2. Berry Compote — Takes ~15 minutes, can cool while tofu bakes
  3. Crepes — Takes ~20 minutes; stack with parchment between each
  4. Velveeta Sauce — Takes ~10 minutes
  5. Assemble and serve immediately (see instructions below)

Assembly Instructions

Savory Crepes (for tofu and Velveeta sauce)

  1. Slice the glazed tofu into thin pieces.
  2. Warm the Velveeta sauce gently over low heat if it has cooled.
  3. Place a crepe on a plate and fill the center with 2-3 slices of glazed tofu.
  4. Drizzle generously with warm Velveeta sauce.
  5. Fold the crepe in half or quarters and serve immediately.

Sweet Crepes (for berry compote and Nutella)

  1. Place a crepe on a plate.
  2. Spread 1-2 tablespoons of Nutella across the center of the crepe.
  3. Top with a generous spoonful of berry compote.
  4. Add banana slices if desired.
  5. Top with a dollop of whipped cream.
  6. Fold the crepe in half or roll and serve immediately.

Serving Suggestion

Serve 2-3 small crepes of each style per person, allowing diners to enjoy both savory and sweet variations in one meal. If using large crepes, you may want 1-2 of each style, or scale up the crepe batter as needed.

This recipe is best enjoyed fresh, with components prepared as close to serving time as possible. However, crepes can be made ahead and wrapped in plastic wrap or parchment to keep warm. Be generous with the Nutella! Whipped cream serves as the finishing touch; use freshly whipped if possible for best results.
